Easter 2021 Virtual Bulletin
There’s a true story about Simon, a third grade boy who struggled in school. As hard as it was for Simon to keep pace with the other kids and get good grades, it was even harder for him to deal with the other students, who often poked fun of him. One day his teacher gave an assignment to the class- that is she gave each student an empty plastic egg and told them to bring it home and find something to put in the egg that reminded them of new life in springtime. The next day when the children returned, she had them place the eggs on her desk so she could open them in front of the class (she didn’t want the children to “show and tell” their own egg because she was afraid of embarrassing Simon).
The first egg had a flower in it, and the teacher exclaimed, “What a great sign of new life!” The second egg had a bud from a tree, and the third had a butterfly. The teacher praised these students as well. The next egg was empty- the teacher figured this must be Simons and so she quickly tried to move on to the next one. Simon cried, “Oh that’s mine, don’t skip my egg!” The teacher replied, “But
Simon, its empty.” “That’s right”, Simon proudly replied, “My egg is the empty tomb after Jesus rose from the dead, and that is a sign of new life for everyone!”
Still to this day, the empty tomb of Jesus remains open for all to see in Jerusalem. For some the empty tomb means everything, for others it doesn’t mean anything at all. Some believe, others don’t. St. Paul urges us to think about the life to come, not what is on earth. We are urged to live with our focus on the unseen, not on what our eyes can see. For those without faith, life will become empty, sad and depressing. For those with faith, they will find lasting peace, joy and happiness.

2021 Arise Annual Catholic Appeal
I am immensely grateful for your support last year to the Diocese of Bridgeport’s 2020 Annual Catholic Appeal. What a challenging year it was and thanks to the generosity of so many we were able to serve thousands of Fairfield County individuals and families through our ministries and programs. Catholic Charities alone served over 1.2 million meals since the pandemic began.
This week you will receive information by mail about our 2021, Arise
Annual Catholic Appeal and how your support assists the ministries and programs our parishes cannot provide to the community on their own. We cannot do it without you and I am immensely grateful for your support of works of Faith and Ministry; Education and Catechesis; and Charity and Pastoral Services the Appeal provides to all people in the Diocese of Bridgeport.
To donate and get further details on the Appeal go to 2021ACA Bridgeport.com
